  • Bow-tie training providers
    Hi Breanna,

I just did this at the beginning of December last year through IMPAC Training www.impac.co.nz or Tel. 0800 246 722. It was really well done :)

  • My struggle to engage our workers and change the culture
We have a great culture in our company but participation is still a big issue with us too and we only have 40 workers. We now hold meetings with small groups and that has proven much better for getting them to talk and offer suggestions and participate in the discussions and decisions, so maybe try that :)
  • H&S when working from home

That's next week 15th April so still time to register people :)
  • Advice re working at height training for H&S Manager
Yes I can recommend Chris. He is wonderful and will give you exactly what you need & nothing you don't.
  • Availability of good candidates to fill H&S roles
As someone who doesn't get paid anywhere near what the "average" pay rates are in the profession according to the latest Safeguard statistics, I don't think its about pay at all. Its more about the overall aversion to anything H&S related here in NZ. Most people I speak to consider my job must be the most boring, box-ticking desk job there is and of course it isn't at all. I love that I can get out of the office and go and chat to our workers on site. Even my partner considers me to be an "oxygen thief" so I think its more the stigma around the profession. Overseas nationals are more prepared to do the job than NZers.
  • What do you measure and how do you measure it
Electricity usage is also a good one and is easily measurable these days with power companies being so proactive with their reporting processes and Apps that include real-time usage and forecast usage.
  • Poll on manslaughter and marijuana
Thanks Chris for your comment. The D&A Policy does actually address that further along so we're covered there too.
  • Poll on manslaughter and marijuana
I voted "no" for drug policy also as it currently speaks specifically about "Illegal" substances and once marijuana is decriminalised it won't apply. Any "off duty" use will be handled the same as alcohol - as long as it doesn't adversely affect a worker’s job performance or jeopardises the safety of themselves, other workers, our plant and equipment, or where such usage adversely affects the public trust and the ability of our company to carry out its responsibilities.
  • H&S Management Software Query
    Hi Adam
We too use Vault and have done for many years. It started as a sole H&S module but is now a fully integrated Management System. It has Apps that allow for on-site monitoring, auditing and checks etc.
Fantastic! Check it out at https://www.vaultintel.com/
  • Measuring the High Vis of Clothing
    Hi Gina,

The standard only says "used correctly and maintained in a serviceable condition". Our rule of thumb is if it looks shabby or dirty then it needs to be replaced. As soon as the reflective strips start to disintegrate or stitching is coming off then its generally faded beyond fit for purpose so we issue new.
    Hope that helps

    Cheers
    Rhonda
