Practical Alternative to Pickling Paste
If I was to eliminate Pickling Paste for welding, are there an practical alternatives that could be used?
This is for a engineering workshop connected to a manufacturing plant, so sporadic use rather than full time use.
There are good controls being used around the storage and use of the pickling paste with an experienced user, but as we are talking about the hierarchy of controls I though this was a good time to ask about elimination and substitution.
I would like to get a feel for any tech or chemical advances please, happy for recommendations by pm or in this thread.
Pretty sure you can get pickling paste without the Hydrofluoric Acid in it making it alot less harmful
A lot of fabricators are moving to electrolytic weld cleaning for stainless, which use a power supply and a weaker (less hazardous) acid. Really good for workshop environment but site work / in situ requires more gear to be taken out to site so it seems like it is less common in those applications for now...
YouTube video on the subject (it is an equipment supplier's video so watch out for the bit over-the-top bias)
Also a NZ supplier of the equipment I found from a very quick search (no idea of the quality of this gear but you could ask for some references)
