  • ACC First Week Compo
Assuming the med certs have the same claim number then this would apply I think

The Date of First Incapacity (DOFI) or start of 7 day stand down is the earlier of:

When they took time off work to seek treatment
OR when they are first certified as unable to work

    https://www.acc.co.nz/assets/business/quick-guide-employer-guide-weekly-compensation.pdf

Unfortunately many front line ACC staff are unaware of this so you may need to remind them of this and confirm DOFI and that this above applies

Then get your staff member onto applying for there compensation asap so there is no delay in payment
  • Mental Health / Wellbeing Policy
    Hi Brook,

We are also surveying workers on this - we are looking at getting the leaders/safefy champions to collect this feedback (using open ended questions) - this will also give the leaders a chance to check-in with their teams and learn from the process and hopefully own and lead any initiatives that result.

    Thanks
    Gen
  • Incident Management, Risk Management and Engineering Priorities
We would not enter this as an incident - it would just go in the Risk Register under the "Conveyor Machine Entrapment" risk, a risk action then to guard this would be created in the risk register assigned to the engineer. I have seen a machine risk register (excel) that pulls/links the guarding actions through to a another tab to help summarise the engineering action list.
  • Can workers refuse to declare health changes?
We have used an Occupational Health Physician to complete a fitness for work assessment and provide medical clearance - I will PM you some further details on the approach
  • Government Website - Hazardous Substances Calculator
It is a great starting point, simple to use and was great for helping each site coordinator learn about Hazardous Substances. However be aware it does not show all the controls even really common incompatibles like Acid and Hypochlorite so you should also check the SDS as well.
  • Health and Safety Representatives - Career Pathway
If they find exams difficult then NZQA has just approved NZ Certificate in Workplace Health and Safety Level 4 (Co-ordinator) which is an approved qualification by NZISM, not too many providers for it yet though as it’s so new
  • Seeking feedback on safety differently guideline for SME's
    Hi Tania
Please can I also receive a copy to read and provide some feedback
    Thanks
  • Near Miss Reporting
We only really collect the high potential ones - usually verbally as our guys do not access computers/phones.
We give safety rewards (vouchers, chocolate bars) for the better ones (high potential).
These are also up for nomination of our value awards - bigger voucher and newsletter announcement
Feedback to guys on what was done by their leader and big thank too. Writing this up (very simply) on the area white board so its visual and can prompt more thinking across the day/week
Serious near misses and the learnings are also tabled at the GM meeting with alot of positive feedback to the GM from MD/Safety Manager. Supevisors also given alot positive feedback on reporting them through.
Our new worker interactions(conversations) by each leader are also picking up some.
Agree with the about we have multiple methods - whiteboard, via toolboxes, suggestion box, worker interactions, md and board tours, during safety workshops.
One thing I want to try is for the person (if they are brave enough) who reported it to toolbox the learnings to their team and/or create a video clip share across the sites.
