  • Lone Worker Devices
    You could try VeriSafe.
  • Business Continuity after Covid-19 vaccination (or not)
I would consider the current COVID-19 protocols - restrict access and people numbers, handwashing/sanitising, regular cleaning of common areas and surfaces, PPE, social distancing, stay home if unwell, work from home if possible.
  • Display boards with "Number of days since last LTI"
I have seen a couple of these boards, mainly in production environments. We want to encourage reporting, not put a negative light on it.
  • Remote and on road workers like account managers
Do you have GPS in your vehicles so you can track where they are if they are unable to be contacted? There are also some good lone working apps that can trigger an alert if someone is in trouble.

We ask drivers to complete our online safe driving module and we use the EROAD system in our fleet vehicles - all drivers are required to log in and it tracks driver behaviour. Reporting and recording vehicle incidents can also identify any issues/risks.

Fatigue management is also something that should be considered for staff who drive long distances.
  • Training ideas | templates | etc.
Make it fun and specific to your audience, particularly if you are talking about risk. I find it's easier to get a group engaged if you have lots of discussions and activities. An ice-breaker I use is "what is health and safety"? Ask everyone to talk within small groups and then come up with key H&S words. Go round each group and write the words up on a whiteboard or flip chart. It helps to see what the initial understanding on health and safety is. A quiz at the end with prizes is always fun too.
  • Accredited Employers Programme (AEP) - ACC
I have worked in organisations who are accredited employers. AEP audits are annual so you tend to be continuously working to keep up with the accreditation audit standards and then you have less time to develop and implement wider HSW initiatives (unless you have a large team). I have also worked with Safe Plus and found it to be a good H&S improvement tool which focusses more on leadership, worker engagement/participation and risk management.
  • Measurement of H&S performance
You could measure how many H&S events are being reported. Reporting can be seen as an indication on how well risks are managed and the level of worker engagement. If promoted, reporting can be seen as a positive rather than a negative and it means that workers are engaged and willing to participate in H&S. Little or no reports can mean that workers are not engaged in H&S.
  • Risk Management Training
Impac have some very good courses. If you run a group course, they can tailor it so it applies to your organisation.
