  • Who influenced you?
I was lucky enough to complete my post-grad study and then 8 years later end up working alongside the late David Querido (RIP). David was an absolute professional who understood business as a whole entity and the part that safety played within. Above all else David demonstrated great leadership, morals and ethics that were inspiring to anyone who was lucky enough to work with him. David was a big believer in understanding what motivates and/or demotivates people in order to develop successful businesses and the strength in connecting with people on a deeper level. this is something I will always utilise in my work. RIP my friend.
  • Charging PCBU 2 for induction into PCBU 1 site
Similarly, organisations such as Holcim use an online induction program for site inductions and training compliance out of Aus, which costs over $100 per worker (for contractors).
  • Random Drug Testing
Absolutely agree, differences of opinion are all part of life.
I have never considered the reason for a D and A policy being that employees are untrustworthy more around the fact that as humans we all make poor decisions at times, and across a range of industries I have seen it happen time and time again. If we can use any deterrents, we can to contribute to safer roads in NZ then we will do what we can.
  • Random Drug Testing
Sorry I'm not convinced. I don't want any of our drivers on the road under the influence of D and A and make no excuses for having a D and A procedures in place.
  • Contractor Pre qualification /approval systems
I am yet to come across an organisation that has the foresight to use any type of equivalency in accepting a pre-qualification assessment for contract work if it has not been done through their chosen prequal program. The cost that this is placing on small-med contractors is massive and is avoidable in most cases. Just as frustrating are the companies who want to complete a contractor pre-qual but do not accept an assessment that has been completed by a third-party pre-qual outfit. Come on all the H and S professionals start to give some leadership in this area and apply some level of equivalency to save a whole lot of time and resource.
  • TRIFR etc
Hi Paul, we are in the Transport and Logistics sector.
The calcs and multipliers used were historical for us so it has made sense to continue to make internal comparisons.
  • TRIFR etc
    Hi Paul
We use 200k for TRIFR and 1m for LTIFR.

    Cheers
