• SSSP - Have we lost our way
Fully agree Sheri. Sadly consult and cooperate is rare. Rather a bigger emphasis on shifting risk
  • SSSP - Have we lost our way
I think the least resistance is pertinent and lack of understanding that there are no 2 sites exactly the same.
  • SSSP - Have we lost our way
Sadly too many providers do not understand Site Specific. We will not provide generic rubbish information regardless of scope of works. SSSP needs to be accurate to the site and supported by an accurate safe work method statement detailing clear risk assessment and scope of works with those performing the task
  • "Digital" OHSMIS - Occupational Health & Safety Systems used by companies in NZ?
Hi Chrissy, we do have the general risk register however we tend to be more task specific via SWMS rather than generic registers as we have multiple sites
  • "Digital" OHSMIS - Occupational Health & Safety Systems used by companies in NZ?
We use Ecoportal specifically built to the align to context of our business
  • Contractor Management - The Thin Paper Wall
We use prequalification simply as one of a whole range of tools. The prequal is not site specific but does give us some degree of confidence that we are awarding work to subcontractors that can evidence relevant systems for managing their own risks.
  • The Hazard Register - what is it really for?
Simon, we do have a general hazard register but I totally agree they really don,t serve accurate risk management. In saying that there are some generic hazards that would appear on every site.We would normally work though site specific risks via safe work method statement with the people doing the work to achieve accuracy
  • Incident Management, Risk Management and Engineering Priorities
In terms of your example we would not enter that as an incident. This would go into the hazard and risk register with actions to rectify including completion dates

  • H&S Management Software Query
    Hi Adam,
We have built a fit for purpose international platform with Ecoportal. Our team find it easy to use and we now get some pretty good data to focus our priorities on. As per the previous comments, information must be easy to input or you simply get nonsense out the other end. I went through an extensive exercise at the start to compare options and although there is a lot of work in writing a system from scratch i have had a great platform developed that is very specific to our business and most importantly our areas of risk. have a look at their website www.ecoportal.com i'm happy to give more information if needed
  • Worker Participation and Engagement
    Tracey
I help to lead a team throughout NZ and Australia. Worker participation varies but I have a lot of success in asking our team at the front line what they think and asking them lots of questions about the systems of work they use every day. By providing a safe forum and ensuring their concerns are dealt with swiftly helps me with achieving really good engagement. Management imagine work is being performed a specific way. Often how it is actually performed is something quite different and the people who know the reality are the front line so I go to considerable length to provide lots off opportunity for discussion both formally and informally.
