Here's an evocative photo taken by WorkSafe's Keith Stewart circa 1982 from the cab of a crane during the construction of the BNZ Tower, 1 Willis St in Wellington. (A slightly different shot will appear on the cover of the Sept/Oct edition of Safeguard.)

Keith worked on the site and took a lot of terrific photographs, which can be viewed here.

I can imagine the image might provoke a couple of reactions: "Ah, the good old days!" or "What were they thinking?"

I love old photos like this. I wonder if the stats for the day were reflective of what was happening and true ? It was a different time and place so it would be easy to criticise, we can only learn from them and move on. Great photos of the time, thanks for sharing Peter.

Ah yes, the good old days when the unions were more interested in protecting their welding patch.
