Traffic Accidents and Injury
A question was asked today during H&S meeting whether staff involved in road accidents while working/travelling for work or in a company vehicle and result in injury with time off work should be counted as an LTI (I think so). These don't appear on experience rating report as far as I know as the costs are accounted for in the ACC vehicle levy. The discussion which followed was based on whether the accident was caused by a staff member or member of the public. How do other companies record/manage these from a compliance perspective (no issues around staff support, pay while off work etc).
This is a work related personal injury and would certainly become an LTI .Seems the ACC form filled out by the treating doctor and patient may not have classified the accident as work related. Causation is not relevant as far as ACC is concerned.
Yes. It serious cases a traffic incident is notifiable to WorkSafe, but in practice WorkSafe usually defers to the Police and leaves them to take any action - examples when WorkSafe does get involved tend to relate to maintenance failings, or perhaps driver fatigue etc.
